Good news or Bad news: Ghana discovers oil

I am not sure whether i shouild join my brothers in Ghana to celebrate the discovery of crude oil in the former Gold Coast.

I think nothing else can be a better 50th anniversary gift than the discovery of oil that has the potential of generating more money for Ghana which is fast becoming the pride of the west african coast, because it is the only country on track to meet the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

However, a look at other African countries with oil in the last 20-30 years has sobered me up.

I don't need to mention examples, Nigeria, our own Nigeria is a beautiful case study!

blogs behind the bathroom door

Last week i was in Abuja facilitating at a summit which took place at Radio House.
I excused myself in the middle of the program to go to the gents, my stomach was turning. I entered the gents, locked the door, puilled down my trousers and did what people do behind closed doors.

As i was sweating it ut, i discovered that previous occupants of the exalted seat where i was, had developed series of blog articles behind the door. The blogs written with biros focused on so many topics, and infact the threads were continued by various people.

One of the commonest threads was the one on religion as people argued over the existence of God and wether Jesus was truly the saviour. The blogs were mostly one liner for example someone starts a thread and says " God is real" another responds by saying " are u sure" and the discussion continues.

I remember previous experiences at the gents in Mr.Biggs in Lagos, where someone had scribbled behind the door that if you are looking for a house boy Please call 080-----

Also at the United Nations House in Abuja, the gents had a very funny blog discussion.
Someone apparently started a blog on " I was here Rahman" another person says "I was the first i my family to enter the UN house" and ends with a signature.

Whatever it is, Nigerians are natural bloggers.

Some of the guys and girls that have started interesting blogs behind the gent doors might not even know what a blog is called, but that is not important, the blog all the same.

I thougth i was the only one that took notice, I asked a group of friends in Abuja over the weekend and they gave me many more example ranging from experiences in Eket, to Ogbomoso
