vision 2020 document 'almost' ready
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Nigeria's dream of becoming the 20th largest economy by 2020 will never be realised if a guiding policy on how this feat can be achieved is not developed.

Solving this problem after more than 2 years, the Minister of national planning, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman last week presented the draft vision 2020 documents to stakeholders in a validation exercise in Abuja.

More than 1000 experts on various thematic areas working in various technical working groups, special interest groups and teams at various federal government ministries have worked assiduously to arrive at this final draft.

The document will be presented to the National council of State comprising of Governors and past heads of states; and the Federal Executive Council before it is approved.

This process is expected to end in October when the vision document will be finally completed.

This is only a scratch. Implementing the recommendations is where the real work is.

We still have much work to do. Nigeria. We can!

Join E-Consultation on Nigerian Youth Participation in ICPD+15 Review Process!
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Dear all,
Join E-Consultation on Nigerian Youth Participation in ICPD+15 Review Process!
From July 27 to August 17, 2009, E-cube Foundation and Association of
Positive Youth in Nigeria (APYIN) with support from UNFPA will conduct
an online E-Consultation with young people to learn about their
experiences with participating in implementing the Programme of Action
of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD)
and to arrive at a Nigerian youth position on the ICPD+15 review
process. The E-Consultation is part of series of global processes to
review progress made 15 years after ICPD came into effect.
The ICPD, which was held in Cairo in 1994, articulated a bold new
vision about the relationship between population, development and
well-being. 179 countries agreed that empowering women and meeting
people's needs for education and health, including reproductive
health, are necessary for both individual advancement and balanced
social development. Concrete goals of the ICPD centred on providing
universal education; reducing infant, child and maternal mortality;
and ensuring universal access by 2015 to reproductive health care,
including family planning, assisted childbirth and prevention of
sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS. For more
information please see http://www.unfpa.org/icpd/summary.cfm
Every fifth year UNFPA assesses progress made in the commitments made
and in 2008/09 UNFPA will head the third assessment process, taking
stock of progress that has been made so far in achieving the ICPD
goals.
The E-Consultation will take place over three weeks and each week will
be dedicated to a major theme and include 3-4 discussion questions for
participants response.
To join the online E-Consultation on takingitglobal, please subscribe
by sending an email to
youthandicpd15-subscribe@groups.takingitglobal.org
For more information please visit
http://groups.tigweb.org/youthandicpd15
Please join us and spread the word to all young people who may be
interested in participating!
